Quick start

This is the full version of Get started, and the acceptance path for the project: on a fresh local build, following this page, you connect a first account and install a first app from the official catalog in under five minutes.

Prerequisites

Node (see .node-version), pnpm, and a network connection on first run (the official catalog is remote; offline, Install package… still works).

pnpm install
pnpm --filter @iro-labs/desktop build

Use a fresh profile so you see onboarding with no apps.

Install the Store

The planned onboarding suggests our catalog, which you can replace or skip. It installs the Store through the consent sheet and opens it, with the same package-signature and publisher-pin checks as any install. The Store’s first-run view leads with starter apps. Skip onboarding and you get an empty Iro.

Install Markdown Notes

In the Store, install Markdown Notes. One sheet, one app. Then on its page in Iro, add a folder. That folder is a provider with its own binding and storage namespace.

Create a note from any presentation — in-app, window, widget — and watch the others update live through storage@1.changed.

Connect GitHub and add Daily Briefing

Install GitHub, sign in through Iro’s prompt window, then install Daily Briefing. Run it by hand: your open issues become today’s note. Turn on the morning job (0 8 * * *) to get one every day.

Try it the other way: install Daily Briefing first and it reports NotBound for tasks@1. The sheet names GitHub as the provider, and after install the Store offers GitHub as its own request with its own sheet. Iro never installs a dependency by itself.

If it takes longer than five minutes

That is a bug in onboarding, the catalog, or this page — file it with where the time went.
